Artist statement
Often I start with a colour idea and then move into adding more colours until the entire colour palette has been used. I specifically love movement, so I try to create a visualisation of movement in every stroke. If the last stroke was left the next is right, up-down. I also like to create a whirlpool somewhere in the centre of the painting, like a gate or an opening to another portal. "I'm always dreaming of portals to other worlds."
In the floral fantasy series, (started in 2016 ongoing) the main focus is flora and fauna. Included in the painting are trees, bushes, flowers, buds, seeds and also birds, insects, and animals, this abstract expressionism of flora and fauna gives me a wide range to play with.
This piece moved through many genres, from Monet to Van Gogh, the movement is always flowing, like water, like oil in water as it moves through it changes the surface. I am in love with the process, it's always exciting and yet calming, thoughtful and expressive.
At the end of the painting, I felt this piece needed more so I endeavoured to use a scribing language to add interest, mathematics, physics, astrophysics, shapes, fractals, and wormholes. Space is always on my mind as it merges into our contemporary reality. The end effect is soft yet dramatic, enticing yet calm.
This piece is original in every way. It shows the consistency of my work over time with the specific brush strokes and similarities with lines and yet moves forward with adding a mixed media element of brushes and pens. The piece describes nature and immersive reality mixing together like oil and water, sometimes we see it, sometimes we don't. Sometimes we emerge and sometimes we don't. Sometimes we understand and other times we just have to peer through the mist of time.
Curiosity is always evocative, emotional and symbolic of the journey we are currently on, turn the corner and it's another country road, never really knowing where we are going to end up, no matter how well planned.
